Amanda is a missionary in the Czech Republic. Her work as an English teacher, youth group leader and orphan outreach leader was put on hold when she was hospitalized for a protruding, herniated disc in her back. News that the only solution was an operation stunned Amanda, but she submitted because she knew God's hand was on her. Undaunted, Amanda continued to be prayerful and let God shine through her. She read the Bible daily, helped other patients as she could, and did her best to chat with other patients in Czech. The pivotal moment was when she prayed for her roommate, Marie.
Marie is a 69-year-old woman who was hospitalized for back surgery, and quite scared. Amanda had prayed for Marie from afar. However, on Marie's last morning with Amanda, the urge to lay hands on her was stronger than ever. Amanda debated with God about it until God said, "Amanda, you are praying for healing for yourself. Why should I heal you if you're not willing to be obedient and pray for another person's healing?!" As always, God was right. Amanda used the Czech she knew to ask Marie if she could pray for her. Marie said yes! Amanda stood by her, and Marie instantly grabbed Amanda's hands and started crying. Amanda prayed quietly. When it was over, their other roommate mentioned how that was the best type of insurance.
Two hours later the head neurologist examined Amanda and noticed her reflexes and range of motion had improved. He canceled the operation! Amanda immediately correlated her praying for Marie with the news of her healing. Amanda was sent home to rest for two weeks to allow her back to continue to heal. Amanda is a great steward because she uses every opportunity to share God with others.
