A Tribute to Karen E. Wright

Submitted by: JeannetteSan Antonio TX

Volunteerism with a loving heart and a thankful spirit is how Karen E. Wright makes a remarkable difference in the lives of everyone at Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas.  On Sundays, she arises early and bakes something delectable for the congregation to enjoy, as we gather before Sunday School for fellowship.  In fact, Karen is actively involved in all fellowship activities from decorating the fellowship hall, to preparing and serving meals, to cleaning up afterwards.   Karen is truly a team player and always willing to graciously give of her time and talents;  she always puts the needs of others before herself, and even when she does not have the time, she takes the time to help others.

Additionally, Karen is a strong role model for our youth and our adults;  she has served on the Church Council for many years and currently chairs Parish Education;  Karen orders materials for our teachers, coordinates special Sunday School summer activities to give our teachers a break, prepares birthday bags for our children, and does a fantastic job in planning and executing Rally Day every September.  She coordinates an Appreciation Sunday for our Sunday School teachers, plus she substitutes for them as needed.  Karen works closely with our Pastor and Youth Minister to provide only the best materials and instruction for our children and adults.

Vacation Bible School is a tremendous success at Grace because of Karen; for years, Karen has coordinated the Snack Center; Karen and her team creatively plan, prepare, and serve fun snacks to our youth--healthy, nutritious snacks that reinforce our VBS theme.  Her area is always decorated invitingly and creatively.  Much of her giving is from the heart and a donation, rarely turning in a bill.  She arrives early and stays late, making sure everything is ready for the next morning.

Karen is a member of the Altar Guild, a member on the Day School Committee, a communion lay assistant, and a committee member on several boards. When we need someone with energy, responsibility and commitment, Karen is the choice.
