My granddaughter, Captain Rebecca Carnahan Cozad, is serving with the U.S. Army. From Nov. 2006 through Feb. 2008, she served with the 385th Military Police Battalion headquartered on Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan. During her 15 months there, she faithfully served as reader/cantor for the Orthodox services. It was not an easy task, as she would have to find an escort to walk to the chapel area - about a mile from where her "office" and barracks were located, and then wait until an escort could come to see her safely back to her quarters. This would be after her seven days a week - fifteen hour work days. Many times, she was the only there for the service, but that did not deter her from her "mission" to serve her faith - no matter where in the world she may be (which will be Baghdad, Iraq come this July.)
