Is It Ever Enough?

Submitted by: MaynardBeatrice NE

As I entered through the door of the church entryway, I saw a mother and her two children waiting for someone.  I visited briefly with them.  I knew why they were there.  The food pantry was open for "business" for those in need.  But, we didn't talk about that even though they seemed a bit nervous in just visiting.

I was there to give a financial gift to the food pantry to aid in the purchase of food items needed by the pantry.  When I saw the anxious looks in the eyes of the mother, and moreso in the eyes of the two children, and the smiles they greeted me with, I felt uncomfortable - like a "meltdown" suddenly had hit me.

As I then proceeded to the church office, I tore up the check I had written and re-wrote it for a larger amount. As I did that, I wondered if it would be enough, not only for the family I just saw and visited with.  What about the numerous others that would be going through the same thing that day?  Is it ever enough?  Probably not, but the "moment of decision," I believe, was the urgency that god laid before me that day in that moment, and I am thankful for that faith experience.  He did not alow me to say to myself, "I'll give more next time!"

It was an "attitude adjustment" moment for me and made me realize that God allowed me to be in that specific situation at that lparticular time and moment, and what difference it made.

Matthew 25:37-40 (selected verses) says: "Lord, when did we see you hulngry and feed you, or thirsty and give you smething to drink.  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clote you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?  the king will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the lease of these brothers of mine, you did it for me."
