Glenn Lambert learned the joy of giving as a child growing up on a ranch during the Great Depression. Glenn describes his parents as givers, thankful to be able to help those in need. His mother always managed to help everyone who came to their door, never turning anyone away. His father was a loadmaster for the railroad, and rather than fire anyone, he would find a job they could do. One day Glenn accidentally discovered a check his parents had written to their church. He was amazed at the amount of money they were giving. He so admired his parents, he began thinking about how he could be like them when he grew up. Thus began Glenns plan for a life of giving.
Asked what kind of advice he would give to others, he had plenty to say. Glenn believes everything we have is entrusted to us from God. Everything comes from God alone; everything lives by his power; and everything is for his glory. Romans 11:36. Learn to manage your gifts from God, so that you will be able to give abundantly. Concentrate on what your gift is doing for others, rather than what you might get in return. Even if it isnt possible to give monetarily, we all have what everyone needs: love, patience, and understanding. The pleasure of giving is available to all of us. Fill the needs of others, and you will have friends for life and fun along the way.
Glenn believes his life has been changed and blessed far beyond anything he has given. He gives generously of his time, expertise, and assets to the community and his church in Portland, Oregon. His philosophy on helping others has undoubtedly played a role in the success of the neighborhood hardware store he owns. He finds a way to slip a little extra money to the everyday people in his life such as the gas station attendant or someone he thinks might need a lift. Living this way, he feels he is encircling people with love by giving freely and openly, without worry or fear. And therein lies his joy and pleasure. Oh, that we could all learn from him and follow his example!
