Building Project
Submitted by: John Lincoln NE
Zion Lutheran Church is undergoing a major renovation which has included a new fellowship hall, additional seating in the sanctuary and adding handicapped accessibility to the church. John, my dad, has served as the chairperson for the construction portion of the building project. When he retired, the church project became his part-time job. My father has a great deal of knowledge about construction, and has been involved in many, if not all, phases of the building project working with contractors and, in some cases, right along side of them, to help with the project. Many members of Zion have helped with various stages of the building project, which is exceptional for a small church and a great benefit to have people involved that have expertise in the various trades. I know my dad has worked many hours as a labor of love for Zion church. My dad's service to Zion goes beyond the building project as over the years he has served in many capacities at Zion. While he is very deserving of the Steward of the Month Award, he would not like attention rewarded to him because of it. He knows the work needs to be done, he has the expertise to do it, and he is happy to help the church. My dad has provided an excellent example to me about the meaning of stewardship. While I was growing up, I saw my parents involved at church on many levels: church council, ushering, greeting, reading lessons, serving on committees, teaching Sunday school, if something needed to be done, they were chipping in. My dad is an example that I try to strive for when serving at my current church.
