Anna Saewert, teenage daughter of Scott and Janet Saewert, long time parishioners, plays the flute for our choir. She has been involved in this ministry since 1999. She was involved in the childrens choir initially and was urged by her friend Jenny to play the flute with her. Some lessons and Anna plays the flute beautifully.
Anna enjoys playing the flute for Sunday Masses and other church events, such as graduation and other big celebrations. She continues to be active playing the flute because she loves it. She feels strongly that she is worshiping God in a special way. Her voice does not allow her to praise God, but playing the flute does. Her ministry serves God foremost and the whole community secondarily
What she gets from the ministry is just pleasure for bringing something to the Mass and having good relationships with the Choir menbers and the Choir Directors she has served with. Her favorite memory was playing bells with one of the choir members - it was a lot of fun. Also, every Sunday brings surprising moments
Anna likes the sense of community at St. Als and the multitude of ways to serve that community. She has gotten to know so many people. She would recommend her ministry to others because she feels if someone has a talent to use it especially in church because it helps people to worship. Others, especially teens, can get involved by simply talking to the Choir Director. Anna feels that more volunteers for the choir would certainly help
So the next time you are at Mass and hear someone playing the flute, perhaps you could tell them how they "praised God" by playing that day and how they helped you to worship!
